Justice Tanko Muhammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
AllNews learnt that Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, a Justice of the Supreme Court disclosed this at the unveiling of the national headquarters of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Saulawa, Muhammad was confirmed positive in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he is said to be receiving treatment.
This online news medium had reported that the CJN was conspicuously absent from Monday’s new legal year ceremony of the Supreme Court during which 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria were sworn in.

This may have led to his absence at the inauguration of the 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on Monday. However, he was represented by Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court.
The CJN joins the thousands of Nigerians, including senior public officials and governors, who have contracted the virus.
This online news platform recalls that Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai are among state governors to have tested positive and recovered from the virus.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria is about 73,374, according to an update Monday night by the country’s infectious disease outfit, NCDC.
