COVID-19: Death Toll From Virus Surges Past 170,000

The death toll from the novel coronavirus has exceeded 170,000, with nearly two-third of the death toll emerging from Europe, the hardest-hit region, according to a tally conducted by AFP.

Over 170,226 fatalities have been recorded globally, with Europe recording 106,737.

The United States holds the records for the most fatalities, with 42,364 deaths, closely followed by Italy with 24,114, Spain with 21,282, France with 20,265, and Britain with 16,509.

The total number of coronavirus cases around the world stands at 2,483,086, although, it is believed by experts that the numbers are likely higher than what is reported, as some countries report only the most serious of cases, while some do not have sufficient testing capacities.
