COVID-19: FG May Impose Fresh Lockdown

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF), Sani Aliyu on Friday said the Federal Government will impose a fresh nationwide lockdown if cases of coronavirus infections rise further.

The PTF coordinator revealed this at the daily briefing in Abuja while addressing the upsurge of the COVID-19 cases across Nigeria.

Aliyu said the rising coronavirus infections recorded recently in the country may force the federal government to declare a new lockdown.

Speaking further, he noted that the federal government is very concerned over the spread of the virus.

“If these numbers continue to go up and we start having significant deaths, we will have no option," he said.

"If we do not want to lock down, now is the time to make sure that we follow the non-pharmaceutical interventions.”

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease and Control (NCDC), there are 1565 new cases of COVID-19 across the 36 states of the country as of Thursday night.
