German officials say that labs in the country are now able to conduct nealry 900,000 tests weekly for the COVID-19 virus, this is part of the country's efforts to expand its testing capacity.
The German Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, said, “Today, we have a theoretically possible capacity of almost 900,000 tests (per week) in Germany already, as long as the materials for these tests are available."
Last week, Germany carried out 470,000 tests, indicating a gap in the testing capacity that help prevent the spread of the virus in hospitals and nursing homes.

The minister added, “I think it’s very, very important to see that with what we’ve achieved together in recent weeks, including through the strong lockdown, the biggest risk for an outbreak is in healthcare."
He added that tests would need to be conducted “as comprehensively and preventively as possible."
