COVID-19: Kenyan Governor Distributes Bottles Of Hennessy As Part Of Relief Packages

COVID-19: Kenyan Governor Distributes Bottles Of Hennessy As

A governor in Kenya, Mike Sonko, has distributed Hennessy bottles as part of the relief items to residents of Nairobi where he governs.

The governor was reported to disburse items like soap, food items, and hand sanitizers to the less privileged residents in Nairobi to help ameliorate the impact of the pandemic in the region.

At a press briefing, the Nairobi Governor had stated that he would be adding Hennessy to the relief packages that will be distributed.

“We shall be giving some small bottle of Hennessy in the food packages we will be giving to our people,” Sonko said.

He added that research carried out by the World Health Organisation (WHO) concluded that the ingestion of alcoholic beverages will help combat the virus if present in one's system.

“I think from the research done by WHO and various health organisation health action, it has been revealed that alcohol plays a major role in killing coronavirus and any other virus.

“If you take any had sanitisers and look at the alcoholic content you’ll find that it’s as such," he said.

In a statement debunking his wild claims, producers of the alcoholic product advised Kenyans to desist from such thoughts, as the claims made by the governor were untrue and unproven.

“Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating across different media channels on Tuesday, April 14, alleging that the consumption of Hennessy helps to fight against COVID-19,” the statement said.

“Hennessy would like to stress that the consumption of our brand or any other alcoholic beverage does not protect against the virus.”

Allnews reports that Kenya has a record of 234 coronavirus cases, with a death toll of 11.
