COVID-19: Kwara State Deputy Gov, Wife Test Positive

The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Kayode Alabi, and his wife have both tested positive for COVID-19.

Alabi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Kwara State Technical Committee, went for a coronavirus test with his wife after they both showed symptoms of the virus, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Rafiu Ajakaye.

In the statement, it was also revealed that contact tracing efforts are underway, "among other safety protocols," under supervision by the "government's medical team."

The statement said, “The results of their test are positive. The second couple are very stable and in high spirit, and are now undergoing standard management protocols supervised by the government’s medical team.”

“Immediate contact tracing and tests, among other safety protocols, are being done for persons who have met with the couple in the past few days.”

This development comes in the wake of the death of the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Aminu Adisa, from the virus.

Nigeria has recorded over 40,000 coronavirus deaths, with over 900 deaths.
