COVID-19: Lagos  NIMC Office Crowded As FG Asks Nigerians To

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office at Alausa, Lagos is currently crowded with Lagosians, as the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration gives Nigerians until December 30th to link their National Identity Number with their sim cards.

The crowd currently at the Lagos state secretariat in Alausa is against the strict measures re-introduced by the Lagos state government to curb the spread of the second wave of coronavirus.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) had in the course of last week issued a two weeks ultimatum to network provides to block sim cards of Nigerians that do not have their national identity numbers linked with them.

However, with the recent spike in COVID-19 cases encountered in Lagos state, the state Governor  Babajide Sanwo-Olu who announced that the state could not afford another lockdown however placed restrictions on Social gathering.

AllNews recalls that a popular Lagos clubhouse Cubana was shut down until further notice for flouting the COVID-19 measure set by the Lagos State Government. 

Lagos State had ordered that night club remain closed amid the second wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria. The directive was given to curb the rising number of COVID-19 confirmed cases, which now average 500 cases per day.

In a statement by the state government on December 18, 2020, it was directed that, "Night Clubs have not been allowed to open yet. All Night Clubs in Lagos must immediately shut down, until further notice."

While the state governor is putting in place strict measures to curtail the second wave of the virus, it has failed to make Lagosians who wants to meet up with the deadline of the blockage of sim cards by registering for the National Identity card observe COVID-19 guidelines in the heat of the second wave of the virus.
