COVID-19: Malawi Confirms First Case

On Thursday, the South African country of Malawi announced its index coronavirus case, making Malawi one of the last countries on the continent to record a case, this is according to AFP.

Countries in Africa without any confirmed cases of the coronavirus are South Sudan, Sao Tome, Comoros, Principe, and Lesotho.

President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika, said that the cases of infection in the country are in the country's capital of Lilongwe.

The country's index Coronavirus ncase was an aged woman who had recently returned from her trip to India on a familial visit.

Addressing the nation, Mutharika said, “Upon arrival in Malawi, she placed herself in self-quarantine for 14 days but later became symptomatic within the quarantine period."

It was confirmed the two of the woman's contacts also tested positive for the virus.

The president assured that the Malawian Government will ensure to make accessible medical treatment for the infected, also, contacts of the infected will be tracked down.
