COVID-19: More Than 65,000 Cases Recorded In US In 24 Hours

Coronavirus caseload recorded in the United States within the span of 24 hours totals 65,551, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University.

The US remains the hardest-hit country by the virus, with over 3.1 million coronavirus infections, and 133, 195 fatalities.

Prior to Thursday's record, over 60,200 cases were recorded on Tuesday in just 24 hours.

More infections have been recorded in the United States, especially from states in the south and the west, with health experts concerned that the number of infections and deaths would increase.

Anthony Fauci, a top American health expert says that the US is in a daunting period.

He said, "We're in a very difficult, challenging period right now."

Some states that have recorded somewhat low numbers of infections began reopening, although, according to Fauci, those states "jumped over the benchmarks" of infection rates required for reopening states.

He urged states to "pause" their reopening process, adding that he isn't of the opinion that states, or the country in general, needed to shut down the economy in an extreme move to curb the spread of the virus.

Fauci said, "I would think we need to get the states pausing in their opening process.

"I don't think we need to go back to an extreme of shutting down."

Trump, in a tweet, gave an opposing view to that of the expert, saying that the country's high numbers is due to the amount of testing that the US had conducted.

He tweeted, “For the 1/100th time, the reason we show so many Cases, compared to other countries that haven’t done nearly as well as we have, is that our TESTING is much bigger and better.

“We have tested 40,000,000 people. If we did 20,000,000 instead, Cases would be half, etc.”
