COVID-19: Nigeria Begins Vaccination In Abuja

A Medical doctor of the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr Cyprian Igong has received a jab of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine as Nigeria commenced the deadly virus vaccination process today. 

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, flagged off the exercise on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

However, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, described the moment as a “watershed”.

Also, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said it was crucial “to first cater for those who cater for us”.

The vaccination exercise which started at about 10 am this morning have dignitaries in attendance and they include, the PTF Chairman who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Dr Osagie Ehanire, NPHCDA boss, Dr Faisal Shuaib amongst others.

AllNews reported that Nigeria had on Tuesday received about four million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine shipped into the country through the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport.

The President and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will, on Saturday, receive shots of the vaccines to dissipate vaccine hesitancy amongst Nigerians.
