COVID-19: NYSC Charges Corp Members On Community Sensitisati

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brigadier General Ibrahim Shuaibu has charged corp members to be involved in sensitising residents of their host communities on the need to be administered with the COVID-19 vaccination.

General Shuaibu gave this charge in his address at the terminal parade and closing ceremony of the Batch C stream II corp members at the permanent orientation Camp, Ede, Osun state.

Represented by the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Winifred Shekpeka, the NYSC DG pointed out that educating residents of rural communities on critical government programmes and policies was part of the mandate of the corp members.

The NYSC boss also warned them against drug abuse, cyber crime and advance fee fraud, noting that such indulgences would not only tarnish their family image if caught but would ultimately destroyed the individual.

While warning the corps members against indulging in the local politics of their host communities, he encouraged them to identify and embrace projects that would impact on the people.

In her own remark, the Osun state coordinator of the NYSC, Winifred Shokpeka emphasised that from next camping, apart from the call up letter, COVID-19 vaccination certificate was another important document that would admit a prospective corp member to camp.

 Shokpeka also stated that in conjunction with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Osun, corp members that were yet to be administered with the COVID-19 vaccination in the Batch C stream II were vaccinated, while individuals residing in adjourning communities bordering the orientation camp also benefitted in the vaccination exercise.

While charging the corps members to take their security serious by strictly adhering to all the tips given to them during the orientation course, she also urged them to engage in post camp training to consolidate on the skill acquired during the orientation.

2,096 corps members participated in the three weeks orientation exercise for the Batch C Stream II course out of which 1443 comprising of 656 males and 787 females were deployed to Osun State.

The remaining 653 corps members comprising of 246 males and 407 females were dislodged from Lagos State.
