COVID-19 Palliative: N-Power Minister Denies Receiving Inter

As the Nigerian government keeps on with the N-Power program, Sadiya Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, who is also in charge of the famed scheme has denied receiving COVID-19 intervention funds.

Farouq who denied the allegation while appearing before the house of representatives committee on Tuesday said that no penny was received from any organization within or outside Nigeria.

According to her, items received by the Federal government during the pandemic were food items and beverages.

“We have not received a penny from any organization within or outside Nigeria.

“We only operate within the budgetary allocation as appropriated (budgeted). But we received some relief items from some organizations during the pandemic like food items, beverages. We have not received any funding from any quarters.”

“We distributed these palliatives to all the states. We have given out 70,000 tons of grains from the national grain center by Mr. President.

“We were also given foodstuff by customs and this we distributed around the 36 states of the federation including FCT. We handed over these palliatives to all the state governors for onward distribution to the poor and the vulnerable in their states

The Minister added that palliatives for Cross-River state are “still waiting there for them".

It will be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier challenged the N-Power minister to account for N500 billion COVID-19 funds allegedly received by the Federal Government.
