COVID-19: President Of Philippines Orders Arrest Of Unvaccin

The President of Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the arrest of unvaccinated persons who violates the stay-at-home orders in the country.

According to Aljazeera, Duterte said; “I am now giving orders to look for those persons who are unvaccinated and order them to stay indoors.”

“And if they refuse and then leave their houses, they can be restrained, and officials are empowered to arrest them."

“If you don’t get a jab you put everybody in jeopardy with the virus."

With the latest figures of infections on Friday, the country hits a record-high rate as the total number of cases, since the pandemic began approaches 3 million. 

According to Aljazeera, the country reported at least 21,819 new COVID-19 infections, which raised the country’s positivity rate to an high of 40 percent out of 70,049 tests conducted. The official death toll stands at 51,871.

The 40 percent positivity rate in the country is well above the World Health Organization’s five percent positivity threshold.

Health officials have warned that the number of infections could increase in the coming days since less than half of the country’s population have completed their jabs.
