COVID-19: Two Chilean Ministers Test Positive

On Monday, Chile recorded a high number of coronavirus infections, 4895 new cases in just 24 hours, with two ministers also testing positive for the virus.

The two ministers who have caught the virus are the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet, and the Minister of Public Works, Alfred Moreno.

Moreno tweeted, “I have been informed that the COVID-19 test I had a few days ago was positive."

Although, he says that he has not begun to show any symptoms, he has put himself under quarantine after personnel caught the virus.

While the energy minister, Juan Carlos, said that he had gone into isolation “when he experienced mild symptoms, which could be associated with the disease."

Juan Carlos “has had no direct contact with President Sebastian Pinera or other cabinet members in recent days,” leaving out the means of transmission of the minister.

Aside from the Jobet and Moreno, three other ministers who had taken preventive measures by self-isolating, after coming into contact with COVID-19 patients, tested negative for the virus.

Forty-three fatalities and 74,000 confirmed cases have been recorded in the South American nation, and an upsurge in the number of infection cases in the country necessitated the imposition of a lockdown on the country's capital, Santiago.
