COVID-19: Ukraine Offers $1m To Scientists For Coronavirus V

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has offered the sum of $1 million as a reward to resident scientists in Ukrane if they are able to create a vaccine for the coronavirus, this is according to the president's spokesperson.

Ukraine has a total of 3,102 confirmed cases with a death toll of 93.

The president's spokesperson, Yuliya Mendel, says that Zelenksy “believes a million dollars is a good incentive," and that the move to support scientists in the creation of a vaccine would do well to “save hundreds of thousands of lives.”

Mendel added that the president “really wants Ukrainian scientists to work more actively towards developing medicines that will help the whole world.”

The World Health organisation stated, on Monday, the need for the creation of a vaccine for coronavirus, as it is imperative that it is developed sooner to bring the spread of the virus to a quick end.

Globally, the death toll from the virus has surged past 100,000.

Speaking on how Ukraine, whose economy has suffered economic blows with its reliance on foreign aids, Mendel said, “So far we are not talking about a specific source for the money.”
