COVID-19: US Unseats China In Virus death Toll

The United States, unseats China as the country with the highest number of infection, this is according to a report by Johns Hopkins University.

In the US, there has been a record of 3,145 deaths from the COVID-19 virus, placing higher than China's 3,309 deaths, according to the university's report.

The country following closely is Italy, the most affected European country, with a total of 12,428 deaths - more than any other country - while Spain comes in second with a total of 8,269 deaths.

The United States has a record of 175,067 confirmed cases, which is higher than any other country on the globe.

Italy has 105,792 cases; Spain has 94,417 cases, and China has a total number of 82,278.

Germany records a total number of 68,180 cases of infection with 682 deaths, while France and its dependent territories have a total number of 45,232 confirmed cases and 3,032 deaths. 

In the US, the deaths are mostly emerging from New York.

Speaking with NBC, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the New York, in its bid to meet with the swelling numbers, was "tripling" its bed space.

He added, “(We) will require a level of hospital capacity we’ve never seen, (that) we’ve never even conceived of.”
