Crowwe, is the first social app in Nigeria that doubles as a messaging, savings and payment platform, but Nigerians don't want it. The distaste for the app isn't due to its copycat function, but because of the founder, Adamu Garba.
In the book of Nigerians, most especially the social media users, once the head is rotten, the body is bad. Adamu has been promoting his social media app as an alternative to Twitter and Instagram - he intensified the push during the ENDSARS protest - this is how he lost the market Crowwe needed to survive.
While the company says it will protect users' information, as it is "committed to protecting the privacy of all users.", however, Crowwe freely gives advertisers its users information, and state that it doesn't regulate or control the usage of these information by the advertisers.

"Some of the advertisements you see on the Platform are selected and delivered by third parties, such as ad networks, advertising agencies, advertisers, and audience segment providers. These third parties may collect information about you and your online activities, either on the Platform, through cookies, web beacons, and other technologies in an effort, to understand your interests and deliver you advertisements that are tailored to your interests.
Crowwe is some sort a lookalike of Instagram, Whatsapp and every other savings or payment platform out there when the outlook and functions are examined. Crowwe is an outright copycat app tailored in line with existing social media apps. Like other social media apps, Crowwe has an "Add Story" and "Disable Last Seen" features that WhatsApp is known for.
Meanwhile the likes, comment symbol as well as direct message are similar to Instagram. The outlook of the gallery is also similar to Instagram, placing the idea of a ripoff of Mark Zuckerberg's app in the mind of its users - the similarities Crowwe shares with existing social media app is one reason the app could be referenced as a multi-purpose platform. It's left to be seen how Adamu could convince social media users to migrate to his app when the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have a strong foot hold among the youths.
In a quick check on Google Playstore, AllNews discovered that Crowwe has over 1000 downloads since it was released in July this year. The social app has about 570 reviews, only 30 of the reviews are positive, while the Crowwe app has 1.8 ratings.
The numerous negative reviews for Crowwe app on Google playstore, put the app in a bad spot, as it could be kicked out of the playstore if negative complaints continue. Some of the complaints are as follows;
One reviewer simply identified as Bode Writes, stated, "This App represents everything that defines wrong. From the space it takes on Phone, to the design interface and user experience, it makes me wonder if thoughts went into the development of this App. For the benefit of doubt, check the Login icon and how unnecessarily bad it looks, the dashboard looks fraudulent and the trademark looks like that of ISIS. I am suspecting the App to be from that side. Please take it down so that people can be protected. Zero Star App."
Another user, Oreoluwa Omowaye wrote, "This app is horrible. It's exceptionally slow, picture quality is awful, user interface is terrible as well. I feel like the developer tried to cram whatsapp, twitter and Instagram into a teeny tiny box and honestly, it's not working. That picture quality really is horrible. A total waste of space, time and data."

"I downloaded the app to give it a try, it was an absolute waste of time. It is a like a very very cheap copy of twitter down to the bird icon. I think this app should be flagged as plagiarism. The developer of this app basically stole the concept of twitter and is trying to pass it of as authentic and genuine. Even going as far as bribing people to give the app a five star rating. I would like to suggest that the app be removed from this reputable app store." one reviewer called Alexander wrote.
Another complaint from Peter Ogundipe showed that, "Do not download this app! Poor interface, it's exceptionally slow, picture quality is horrible, this is an absolute waste of time and data, to think it plagiarized twitter, and yet the design is nowhere near the standard of twitter. This is a disgrace to Nigeria, and to Africa, and to the whole world. PS: they will also steal your personal informations( identity) and use for various online scams. BEWARE!!!!"

Crowwe might have a function that is not pleasing to many of social media users, but the problem doesn't end there, as Garba's utterances during the EndSARS protest has pit him against social media users in Nigeria. Garba threatened Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey, for supporting EndSARS protest, stating that he's trying to instigate violence against the Nigerian government.
Garba's statement towards Dorsey had turned the youths against him, leading to outrage against him and his app. Many said Garba wanted Facebook and Twitter to be banned in order for Crowwe to be the government preferred social media app. His support for government during the EndSARS protest had also casted doubt on the security of Crowwe, as some said he could give the government users information.
So Crowwe has two problem; its copycat functions and its founder, Garba.
