CSOs Award IGP Baba, Commend Police

IGP Usman Alkali Baba

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance has awarded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, with the Grand Defender of Democracy.

The award was to honour the IGP in recognition of his achievements since he assumed office.

The IGP was presented the award on Thursday at the IGP Conference Hall of the Police Headquarters in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson of the police force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to Adejobi, the group also commended the Nigeria Police Force for achieving improvement in human rights compliance amongst others under the leadership of the IGP Baba.

The Coalition comprises leaders of 37 Pro-Democracy and Civil Society Organizations in the country. 

They noted that the IGP has achieved much in the promotion of discipline, welfare improvement, infrastructure, decency and security of Nigeria's electoral process.

Speaking during the award presentation, the leader of the delegation, Femi Lawson, expressed satisfaction with "the recent policing strategies, improved human relations, and sterling leadership qualities of the IGP in particular".

Responding, the IGP appreciated the coalition for the award honour while applauding them for their respective efforts in deepening democracy in the country. 

IGP Baba added that the police remain committed to the improvement of the security architecture of the country.
