Customers Attack Sterling Bank After Offering To Help Struggling Artist, Cynthia Morgan

Customers Attack Sterling Bank After Offering To Help Strugg

Sterling Bank is at it again, in the midst of the storm, but this time, their customers are attacking the bank. Sterling Bank's customers are criticising the bank and threatening to close their account for planning to use their money to fund the lifestyle of celebrity artist, Cynthia Morgan, who is struggling to revive her career.

The bank's attempt to endorse Cynthia Morgan doesn't sit well with their customers and many have made this known in the comment section of Sterling Bank's tweet, where the lender revealed that Cynthia Morgan - now known as Madrina - should reach out to them for their assistance.

What Happened To Cynthia Morgan

AllNews recall that some weeks ago, Cynthia Morgan revealed in an interview that she stopped are music career due to depression as she was unable to attain her plans. The artist began to trend again during the weekend after she had another interview where she detailed her struggle with her label, NorthSide, which is owned by music video director, Jude Okoye.

Her disclosure during the recent interview was trailed by criticism and support from her colleagues in the music industry, with fellow artiste, Davido, tweeting that he's willing to work with her if she called him. This was the same route Sterling Bank took and was trailed by divided opinions.

What Did Sterling Bank Do?

Sterling Bank had tweeted that the bank is willing to work with her as they begin their One Bank campaign, "Hey Cynthia Morgan, we have followed your story and believe there is a bright future ahead of you. We would like to work with you on our ONE BANK campaign. Please get in touch by DM. @MadrinaFire"

While some Nigerians applauded the support, the public announcement didn't sit well with some, who labelled the bank a "clout chaser", while some Twitter users who identified as Sterling Bank customers condemned the plan.

According to a Twitter user, @person_pikin1, Sterling Bank should have sent Cynthia Morgan a direct message rather than tweeting it publicly, "Sterling Bank is nothing but Clout chaser Next time go straight to her DM and tell her what you want and stop posting it here unless you want to chase clout."

Sterling Bank Customers Revolt Against Bank

One Mohammad Omale tweeted that he would be removing his money from the bank as he doesn't support the bank's plan, "Immediately I'm withdrawing my change in your bank, you can't be using my money to fund the extravagant lifestyle of a failed musician/celebrity. You've poor people banking with you, how many have you lift?. What is your CSR targeted at the poor? Misplaced priority"

For @y4khalil, He tweeted, "@Abdul_dige come see them. I don't trust them anymore. They managed to convinced me to open my corporate account with them. Since then, they've been making fool of me, asking me to deposit so so amount of money in the account. only to realize I'm been used." He added that, "I since moved to another bank that are ready to do business.. not those who'll lobby you to be making deposits for them, and at the end fill you with stories"

For @Jhornne01, Sterling Bank should spend their time to fix their app and not chase story, "Instead of fixing the app, you're following story... spent over an hour trying to upload documents for account opening today and still couldn't get it done... but of course, bring her on board."

Meanwhile, another Twitter user, @HumanistMoveme3, tweeted she hope the deal Sterling Bank is offering Cynthia Morgan won't lead to some of their staff losing their jobs, "I wish Morgan the best, am not sure what this is all about for a bank who closes branch offices and lay off bank staff like no man's business. I hope the head of some of your staffers won't roll from this deal."

@EnuesikeSamuel stated that, "Na wa o... Me wey dey bank with una for years nothing una do to help me out of poverty..." Also, @teeblaze45, simply tweeted, "So this is what you people use my money for"

Another customer of Sterling Bank, @pc4real, tweeted, "Stupid bank that keep Froozen someone's account without any traces of fraud all in the name of upgrading @Sterling_Bankng and MMM are bird of thesame feather, I've sent them DM for the past few days now and no respond... Scammers everywhere in Nigeria Mtcheeew"

Sterling Bank Has An History Of Chasing Clout

Last year, Sterling Bank stoke a fire in the banking industry after it shaded other Nigerian banks on Twitter, stating its superiority above the likes of GTBank, Access Bank, First Bank and UBA, “Shoot for the moon, become a star – it’s the least you deserve.”. Sterling Bank tweeted.

This led to a tweet war among the banks, as they responded and ridiculed themselves. So the current public show of support by Sterling Bank is a reminder of the period the bank tried to chase clout for more exposure among Nigerians on Twitter.
