Cycling Keeps People Healthy, Says FRSC

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC), Cross River Command, Elizabeth Akinlade has said that cycling can keep people healthy, thereby keeping them away from the hospital.

This was disclosed on Friday in Calabar at the commemoration of the 2022 World Bicycle Day, celebrated annually on June 3, with the aim of making people active through simple activities which include bicycle riding.

The theme of the 2022 commemoration is “Our Planet Our Health.”

"Cycling has a lot of health benefits as it makes a lot of people active when they engage in it as a means of transportation", she said.

Akinlade, who added that bicycle riding is friendly to the environment as it does not generate carbon-mono-oxide which is hazardous to the atmosphere, mentioned: “We are trying to sensitise people that it is okay to engage in cycling because it makes our air cleaner.

“It also has the capacity to keep the rider fit.

“However, FRSC is concerned about the sanity and the reduction of crashes on the roads; so, no matter the mode of transportation, we encourage people to be conscious of their safety and the safety of other road users.

“All modes of transportation have their advantages and disadvantages to the society but the more the people understand these differences, the better for our society.
