Dangote Completes Nigeria’s Longest Concrete Road

Dangote Completes Nigeria’s Longest Concrete Road

Dangote Group has completed the construction of Nigeria’s longest rigid pavement in Kogi State. The construction is the first of its kind, top engineers agree.

The 43-kilometre Obajana-Kabba road, built by Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has been described by motorists as the country’s most strategic highway in aiding travellers between the North and the South.

Project Director Olatunbosun Kalejaiye expressed excitement at the completion and delivery of the DIL's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for use by Nigerians.

Site Engineer Samuel Obosi said the dual carriageway will be durable and less susceptible to potholes and repairs, unlike asphalt roads.

“Thank God, it is a concrete road. It can withstand any heavy-duty vehicle,” Alhaji Lamidi Sikiru, a driver said.

Roads in Kogi, especially in Lokoja township has been an eyesore for so long with potholes  inherent in most parts of the roads despite the state government's allocation of billions of Naira in 2017 and 2018 for the roads' repairs and construction in the town.

The state government had also in 2017 allocated N2.2 billion for the "construction and allocation" of Lokoja township roads in the budget of its Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban development. However, only N444 million was disbussed.

The sum of N600 million was also allocated for the same project in 2018 by the government but they refused to confirm the amount released in that year.

In the same vein, in 2017, the government budgeted N500 million for the construction of the Otokiti Ganaja Bypass but only N150 million was disbussed.

In February 2019, Dangote Industries Limited partnered with five other companies along with the Federal Government to cnstruct and refurbish roads across the country. The five other companies include Lafarge Africa Plc; Unilever Nigeria Plc; Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc; Nigeria LNG Limited; and China Road and Bridge Corporation Nigeria Limited.
