Dangote Empowers 34,000 Women In Katsina

Dangote Foundation, on Friday, commenced its one-off and unconditional Micro-grants Programme with 34,000 women in Katsina state as beneficiaries.

In 2012, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said at the flag-off ceremony in Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state that the foundation had earmarked the sum of N10 billion to empower helpless women with low income opportunity in all 774 local governments in the country.

In this regard, the statistics claims that one thousand women from the 34-local government in every state will be awarded a sum of N10,000 from the project as means to support household expenses.

“The micro-grants programme is one component of the economic empowerment pillar of the foundation."

This we believe will help reduce their vulnerability and meet their livelihood needs,” Dangote said.

In addition, Dangote stated that the project has so far reached 360,000 women from Kano, Lagos, Jigawa, Kogi, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Niger, Sokoto and Nasarawa states and it is going to reach out to more

“In the coming weeks we would be proceeding to Kebbi, Zamfara, Edo and Osun states to conduct a similar programme,” he said.
