The governorship aspirant of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna state, Datti Baba-Ahmed has stepped out of the party's primaries.

Datti took the decision barely 24 hours before the election.

He further expressed his unshakable loyalty to the PDP.

The PDP primary which was slated for Wednesday has strong contenders including the former governor of the state, Ramalan Yero and a Former member of the house of representatives, Isa Ashiru.

Datti who made this known in a letter addressed to the party chairman in the state, Hassan Hyet stated that the activities of the election are in rivalry to his reason of joining politics.

He said, “These are inconsistent with my purpose of being in politics.”

However, Datti did not give specific reasons why he had to step out of the race.

Reacting to speculations that he had dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Datti told newsmen that he remains a loyal member of the PDP.

He further hinted that if the party doesn't take the road of caution, its chances of clinching the 2023 election would only be a mirage.

Withdrawing from the race, he said, “I consequently hereby respectfully withdraw from the 2023 governorship contest of Kaduna State under our great party the PDP.

"I, however, remain loyal and supportive.

I pray for the day we get our pollution right for the sake of Nigeria."

Daily Trust reported that a source close to Datti had said that the decision is not unconnected to "money politics".

He added that the same type of politics was in play during the just concluded House of Assembly, Reps and the ongoing Senate primary elections.
