Dawisu's Arrest Was Not Because Of Social Media Comment – DSS PRO

Dawisu's Arrest Was Not Because Of Social Media Comment –

The Department of State Services (DSS) says the arrest of Mallam Salihu Tanko-Yakassai, popular on Social media as Dawisu, the Media Aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State followed issues beyond the expression of opinion in social media.

The Public Relations Officer of the Service, Dr Peter Afunanya, announced this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the DSS and he is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,’’ he stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ganduje, on Saturday, sacked the media adviser over alleged unguarded comments and utterances.

He said Tanko-Yakassai failed to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern.

So, he said, he could not be allowed to continue to serve in a government he does not believe in.

Dawisu had recently criticized the Buhari and APC over the latest abduction in Zamfara and the poor method of handling security issues, specifically the cycle of mass abductions.

His arrest was reported when he didnt return home on Friday night. It was later gathered that he was arrested and taken to Abuja from Kano office of the service.

The State Security Service (SSS) had earlier denied arresting him. The Kano State Director of SSS, Muhammad Alhassan, had insisted that the secret police never even invited the media aide, let alone arrest him.
