De Bruyne Out For Four Months Over Hamstring Injury

De Bruyne Out For Four Months Over Hamstring Injury

Kevin de Bruyne faces three to four months on the sidelines and could undergo surgery on his ongoing hamstring injury, says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

The 32-year-old Belgian limped out of City's 3-0 win at Burnley, just 23 minutes into the very first game of the new Premier League season on Friday.

"We have to decide if it's surgery or not surgery but he will be out for a few months," said Guardiola ahead of City's UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla.

"It will be decided in the next few days. Surgery is surgery. He will be out for three or four months. The injury for Kevin is a sore blow for us.

"But at the same time, we have to look forward.

"The skills of Kevin are irreplaceable but it's an opportunity for others and I'm sure they will take it."

The game at Turf Moor was De Bruyne's first start since he was forced off early in City's Champions League final success against Inter Milan in June.

This led to him not featuring in most of City's pre-season so that he could recuperate.

His return to action came in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on August 6, providing the assist for Cole Palmer's goal after coming off the bench.

City face Europa League winners Sevilla in the Super Cup at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece on Wednesday and then face Newcastle on Saturday evening.
