Delay Of Kano Workers' Salaries Not Deliberate — HOS

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State

The Kano State Government has denied that the delay in the payment of April 2022 salaries of workers is due to negligence on its side.

Civil Servants in the state celebrated the Sallah in a gloomy state following a delay in the payment of their salaries, with most of them unable to meet their financial obligations.

Speaking on the delay, Head of Service (HoS), Usman Bala, explained that government could not have deliberately delayed workers’ salaries if circumstances were not beyond its control.

He attributed the delay to the late disbursement of federal allocation to states, adding that as the allocation was disbursed, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) could not credit the state government’s account before the Sallah holiday.

Although, the state government reportedly generated over N5 billion from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Usman stressed that the revenue could not meet the over N10 billion monthly wage bill.

He stressed that government has placed all financial institutions on alert to ensure instant payment as soon as the state receives cash backing.
