DELSU Launches Consolidated Data Centre

The management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka has established a consolidated Data Centre to solve the issue of accessing transcripts in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, launched the centre in Abraka Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The inauguration was one of the projects set aside to commemorate the institution's 30th Anniversary and 14th Convocation ceremonies.

Other projects include the Faculty of Pharmacy and Arts complexes, the Department of Nursing Science Education, Educational Technology Building, Access road to Faculty of Pharmacy, Animal House and Faculty of Science, and the Foundation of the Faculty of Management Science Complex.

“DELSU is taking scientific steps toward addressing the challenges of accessing transcripts in the university.

"We are doing it in collaboration with Lagos State University.

“Our vision is to digitalise DELSU to meet up with world top class university standards and we shall achieve this through consistent improvement, updating, and developing DELSU Database.

“The database shall possibly encompass every unit, Department, Faculties and sundry for e-management of DELSU system via digitalisation of transcripts, develop a robust e-result engine, among others,” Egwunyenga explained.

Apologising for the problems faced in accessing transcripts, the VC said the university had created a committee to cooperate with the senate to make sure easy accessibility by converting all hard copies to soft.

Egwunyenga said the university has seen tremendous growth since he became VC in December 2019 after he introduced the Students Work-Study programme to allow students to work while studying.

“We look back with satisfaction on our growth from a Faculty University with a students population of less than one thousand in 1992.

“To a citadel of learning with 12 Faculties, over 85 Departments and more than one thousand academic programmes.

“Twenty-seven Directorates and Research Centres, Post-graduate Schools and students population of 30,000,” the VC said.

Egwunyenga also disclosed that DELSU has since his assumption as VC become one of the best state universities in the country, stating that he has improved the welfare of members and students of the institution and its revenue profile.

“I elected to lead, inspire and advance the transformation of DELSU by building a motivated workforce and pursuit of innovations.

“Strengthening academic and administrative units of the university, improve her revenue base and deploy a new approach to administration based on a robust focus on staff and students’ welfare and open communication,” he said.

The VC also disclosed that the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari,  Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, would deliver the convocation lecture on April 27.
