Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has announced that the Police Special Team from Ughelli Division in Ughelli, Delta State, apprehended a renowned kidnapper at a hotel in Udu Local Government Area.

Olufemi revealed this to reporters during a press briefing.

He said that the suspect was also found to have a pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, a Beretta handgun, and three rounds of 9mm ammo.

According to him, “Due to the rate of kidnapping in Ughelli and environs, I detailed a special team to work in synergy with the newly posted DPO in Ughelli Police Division with a clear mandate to fish out the faceless kidnappers and ensure that they are all brought to book.

“Consequently on 8/4/2024, the operatives on the special assignment working on credible intelligence stormed one of the hotels in Udu LGA and arrested a notorious kidnapper.

“Upon his arrest, the suspect gave useful information that led to the recovery of one pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, one Beretta pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army troops have uncovered an armoury with arms and ammunition at the residence of a suspected gunrunner in the Olota community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.

The Nigerian Army on Thursday said the troops during the raid arrested three suspects and recovered a large cache of arms during the operation

According to the Army, troops responding to actionable intelligence raided the identified armoury concealed in the residence of one Mr Kenneth, a notorious gunrunner in the community.

Following a search of the armoury, troops recovered one G3 Rifle, 853 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special.

The troops further extended the search to other adjoining locations within the community and recovered four G3 Rifles and magazines, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Gun, three Sub-Machine Guns (SMG) and Magazines, as well as 476 Live Cartridges.

The troops also recovered five locally fabricated guns, a large plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, and two Speed Boats with 75 Horsepower outboard engines.
