Delta Sets Up Monitoring Team To Tackle Petrol Scarcity

Delta Sets Up Monitoring Team To Tackle Petrol Scarcity

In order to assure availability and sale at the official pump price, the Delta Government has established a monitoring team to follow the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This is stated in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Asaba and signed by Chief Patrick Ukah, Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

According to the administration, the action was essential to stop the everyday hardship that residents in the state were experiencing as a result of the shortage of gasoline and some marketers' inflated prices.

Ukah stated that from the point of loading by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to the point of discharge to the various outlets around the state, the government would oversee the distribution of the petroleum product.

“It is to save the people and residents of the state from the stress and strains they are currently going through due to the non-availability of the product”.

However, the SSG urged the product's major marketers to continue demonstrating compassion for their fellow citizens' suffering and to make every effort to supply the goods using best practises as the current situation requires.

He thanked the state's residents for their fortitude in these tough times on behalf of the administration and added that nobody should take advantage of the circumstance by inciting violence for personal benefit.

According to Ukah, the monitoring team is made up of the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Navy, with the Commissioner for Oil and Gas serving as Chairman.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas will act as Secretary, and additional members include the Nigeria Labour Congress, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Tanker Drivers Union, National Union of Road Transport Workers, and Civil Society Organizations.
