Delta soldiers killing: stop reprisal attack — Falana to N

Femi Falana has urged President Bola Tinubu's administration and the Defence Headquarters to halt the retaliation attack on the Okuama village in Delta State's Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Allnews.ng had earlier reported that President Tinubu condemned the attack on Sunday and gave the Defence Headquarters and the Chief of Defence Staff complete authority to bring to court anybody found accountable for the deaths of military officers and troops.

Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian activist, has criticised the president's decree, claiming that it will lead to the deaths of innocent Nigerians.

Falana also stated on Sunday urging the military to halt the retaliation attack immediately.

Falana said, “Unfortunately, some villages were attacked last night by angry soldiers. After the attack, the villages were set on fire during the nocturnal military invasion.

“Having regard to the destruction of Odi and Zaki Biam over the killing of soldiers, the authorities ought to have taken adequate measures to prevent the attack and burning of the affected villages.

“In view of the tragic turn of events, I call on the military authorities to halt the destruction of the properties of innocent people in the warring communities.

"It ought to be pointed out that collective punishment is a serious offence under domestic and international law.”
