The Executive Governor of Delta State Ifeanyi Okowa has revealed that the state will keep paying pension to former governors and their deputies.
Okowa, who said this in reaction to the recent announcement by the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on stopping pension to ex governors, said that each state has the power to make their separate decisions as it regards governance.

According to Okowa, Sanwo-Olu might have a reason for wanting to stop paying pension to the ex governors of the state.
“There is an existing law in our State on what accrued to the governors and their deputies, that I do not want to touch.
“We are not thinking in that direction, my counterpart in Lagos State may have reasons he wants the law repealed but we in Delta don’t want to go into that.
“I don’t want to comment on the decision of the Lagos State Governor. Each state has the power to make a decision concerning its governance.”
AllNews had, on Tuesday, reported that Sanwo-Olu, while presenting the state's 2021 budget to the Lagos state house of Assembly, revealed his intension to repeal the law that makes provision for payment of pension to ex-governors and their deputies.
