Deputy Gov Philip Shaibu, emerges winner in parallel PDP pri

In an unexpected twist of fate, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu won the parallel Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Edo State.

Shaibu won by more than 300 votes, indicating a possible party upset.

While Shaibu celebrated his victory, the party's Governor Godwin Obaseki faction has yet to hold its primaries, adding to political uncertainty.

Earlier reports suggested that ten aspirants were vying for the ruling PDP's governorship ticket in Edo.

Among them are prominent figures such as Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, Anselem Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.

Over 576 delegates attended the primaries, which were held at Benin's Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, to decide the fate of the aspirants.

Governor Godwin Obaseki-backed aspirant Dr. Ighodalo is regarded as a strong contender, with high hopes for his election as the PDP governorship candidate.

Despite initial speculation about potential protests or parallel congresses, it appears that the aspirants are largely following the party's procedures.

As the political drama unfolds, the Edo State primaries continue to pique the interest of both observers and party supporters.
