Deziani's Comment On Yahoo Boys Sparks Outrage On Social Med

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has received a series of backlash on social media for frowning at how internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boy, have become role models in the Nigerian society.

Allnews had earlier reported how Diezani, while delivering a lecture at a virtual event organized by the Ijaw National Development Group, warned that the new trend ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ is a travesty of an unfolding tragedy for Nigeria, adding that only hard work could guarantee success.

“The ones that have swag, the Yahoo Yahoo boys as my son would say; these, in short, are the role models they are looking at. These are the ones that reinforce negative societal norms and values,” Diezani said.

The former minister who is under trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged fraud seemed to have annoyed Nigerians who deemed her unworthy of making the comment.

Reacting to Madueke's comments some tweets read:

@fisayosoyombo "If Diezani Alison-Madueke really wants to pontificate about how the growing acceptance of 'Yahoo Boys' is "a travesty of an unfolding tragedy for us", I'd sincerely like her to fly into Nigeria after the airspace lockdown to say it to us physically. Do it with your chest, madam."

@bolanleolukanni "Our country is beyond repair at this rate. Diezani who has stolen billions and has the bloody balls to give a speech on how Yahoo boys are destroying Nigeria. And she knows she can do this and nothing will happen to her because our government is weak! And joke ."@Babatee_ednut “Diezani should be the last person to come out criticizing yahoo boys. You’re simply the yahoo girl.”

@Unclemillo “Deziani, If Nigerians open mouth curse you, 600 years is an understatement.”

@bryobrown “Bring back our money. It is because of your greed that youths find solace in Yahoo-Yahoo.”
