DFB Pokal: Nkunku Stars For Leipzig To Reclaim Cup Against Frankfurt

RB Leipzig secured their second straight German Cup championship with a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The match was ignited by the exceptional performance of Christopher Nkunku, whose contributions propelled Leipzig to glory.

Nkunku, known for his flair and skill, broke the deadlock in the 71st minute.

His low shot found the back of the net after deflecting off an opponent, surprising Frankfurt and completely shifting the momentum of the game.

Despite Frankfurt's persistent efforts to equalize, Leipzig struck again on the counter-attack, with Dominik Szoboszlai expertly finishing off a Nkunku pass, effectively sealing the victory.

RB Leipzig's triumph marks their second German Cup title in as many years, solidifying their status as legitimate challengers to Bayern Munich's dominance alongside Borussia Dortmund. 

Speaking after the match, Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer expressed his joy, stating, "When you win something like this, then you just have to celebrate – and that's what we'll do."

Manager Marco Rose echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the significance of the victory and promising to savour the moment.

The defeat proved bittersweet for Frankfurt, as it marked the farewell of their manager, Oliver Glasner.

Glasner, who guided the team to the Europa League title in his first year at the helm, praised his players' efforts.

"When you go toe-to-toe with Leipzig, that's an accolade. I am very proud of what the team has achieved in the past two years."

Despite Leipzig's triumph, the immediate future of the team remains uncertain as they face the potential departure of key players, including the influential trio of Nkunku, Szoboszlai, and Laimer.

Sporting director Max Eberl acknowledged the possibility of Nkunku's departure, adding further speculation to the transfer market rumours.
