The Imo state government has stated that the digital technology industry has the potential to create around 300,000 jobs for young people in the state.

This was revealed on Thursday, when Enyinna Onuegbu, the Chief Political Adviser and Head of the Political Bureau, briefed reporters on the conclusion of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Owerri.

The digital technology project, according to Onuegbu, came after Gov. Hope Uzodimma approved a document titled "Imo Youth Digital Training and Empowerment Scheme."

According to him, Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi, the governor's chief economic adviser, filed the memo.

“The objective is to have at least 300,000 Imo youths pass through a training that will make them digitally sound and guarantee their expertise in digital technology and other training possibilities.

“In addition, the training will increase their qualifications by guaranteeing their knowledge to become employable as well as employers of labour,” he said.

Onuegbu said that the State Government had constituted an inter-ministerial committee to drive the project.

“The project, when realised, will be very beneficial to the teeming youths of Imo, especially those who are likely to benefit from it not only as employees but employers of labour.

“The beneficiaries will contribute to the economy of the state since they will be working for international organisations, while living in the state and paying their taxes and bills,” Onuegbu said.

The Federal Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, and Zinox Computers, among others, have gotten behind the training initiative, according to him.
