The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, has said that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) created a vacuum in the Police Force.

He said the vacuum is challenging the efforts by the Police to tackle insecurity from a position of strength.

The Acting Alkali stated this on Thursday at a presidential briefing which was organized by the Presidential Communication Team at the statehouse in Abuja.

Alkali maintained that the aftermath of the EndSARS protest also dampened the morale of the officers of the force.

The IGP added that the police have recorded successes against secessionist groups and criminal elements in the southeast.

He indicated that prosecution to ensure justice is served has remained a major challenge as a result of the ongoing strike by the judicial workers.

He then disclosed that the security operatives have reached nearly 70 percent of the complete process of the recruitment plan of 10,000 new police personnel into the forces; he assured that the exercise would continue to apply the Federal Character principle.
