Djokovic Through To Australian Open Semi-Finals After Cruising Past Rublev

Novak Djokovic has booked his spot in the Australian Open semi-finals in Melbourne after beating Russia's Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

The win means he advances to his 44th Grand Slam semi-final as well as his 10th Australian Open semi-final.

Djokovic wasted no time in marching on as he went two sets up with a masterclass performance to remain on course for 10 titles at Rod Laver Arena.

Rublev attempted a comeback in the third set but he appeared bereft of ideas as the Serb showed how hard he is to beat on the grandest stages.

“I’ve been playing very solid, I love these conditions and this court, it’s very special," said the fourth seed who is the favorurite for the title.

"You have to make adjustments and adapt [to the breeze], you have to pick and choose your shots.

"Overall, I think the scoreline in the first two sets doesn’t reflect the match – we had some very close games.

"I knew what the game plan was – if I had to sum it up, on the most important points and shots, I found my best tennis."

The Serbian's tie in the semi-finals will be against Tommy Paul who became the first American men's semi-finalist at the Australian Open since 2009.

Paul had earlier defeated Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals to end the surprise run of his fellow American to reach a first major semi-final.

“He doesn’t have anything to lose, he’s been playing some great tennis here – I’ve got to be ready for the match, play it like any other, and I hope if I play like I have been, I can get through,” Djokovic said on facing the unseeded American in the semi-finals.
