Doris Chima, a veteran actress, has passed on after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 63 years old.
News of Chima's passing was confirmed by the chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Emeka Rising.
The actress was also a founding member of the AGN Lagos chapter and a former vice-chairperson. While confirming her death, Mr. Rising said: ‘‘She has been suffering from breast cancer for more than six years.
"One of her breasts was cut off. And since then, she has been suffering from one complication to the other.”
Mr. Rising expressed his sadness at the sad news and added that the late actress's daughter broke the news to him.
He also stated that the actress, who began her film career in 1994 and appeared in over 50 films during her career, died on Sunday at her daughter's home.
He described her as a dedicated AGN member, saying, “She called me last week and was pleading with me that she cannot come out for the AGN verification exercise due to her ill-health. I wonder how she was able to do that even while on a sickbed. I was very touched and I have been heartbroken.”
He stated that the verification exercise was organized to determine true guild members.
According to Mr. Rising, the actress has been in the Nigerian film industry for more than 18 years.
Her most recent film appearance was in 'My Neighbor's Hot Wife,' which was released in January 2020. In 2019, she also appeared in a few episodes of 'Tinsel.'
