Dozens Killed In Crude Oil Explosion In Rivers

An explosion from a crude oil tapping point in Rumuekpe community in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State left many dead on Friday morning.

Per reports, the incident took place at about 2 am when one of the buses loaded with crude went up in flames while trying to navigate to an illegal refining point in the area.

The development was confirmed by Fyneface Dumnamene, an environmentalist and executive director at the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre.

He disclosed that news of the incident was received by them via the Crude oil spill alert response system.

Also speaking on the tragedy, the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, shared that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was en route to the scene of the explosion.

"The Divisional Police Officer is already on his way to the scene", she said in a chat with Punch.
