FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), crushed over four hundred motorcycles confiscated from commercial motorcyclists popularly called 'Okada' operating within the city centre.

The motorcycles were crushed at Area 1 roundabout after a seven-hour raid on Thursday, in Abuja.

This was carried out by VIO officials in collaboration with their counterparts from the Nigerian Police, Civil Defence, FRSC and the military combed Guzape, Kpaduma junction, Galadimawa, Gudu market and Apo mechanic village.

Addressing newsmen during the operation, the Director DRTS, Abdulateef Bello said the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has given the Directorate a marching order to ensure commercial motorcyclists and Keke NAPEP operators are taken off Abuja roads.

Bello explained that despite the fact that the DRTS has been working hard to sustain the ban on okada riders within the Abuja metropolis since it was put in place in 2006, the recalcitrant operators keep returning to the roads.

He noted that the Administration has declared zero tolerance for the activities of commercial motorcyclists in the metropolis and would ensure the effort is sustained under the new administration.
