Drug Abuse: NDLEA Partners MTN To Deepen Awareness

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has collaborated with MTN Foundation to drive awareness against substance abuse among secondary school students in Nigeria.

A statement from the NDLEA disclosed that the partnership will involve conducting an anti-substance abuse quiz competition which aims at equipping participants with vital information to enable them to make healthier and safer choices, as well as avoid situations that can make them vulnerable to drug use.

The statement added that the competition would also encourage participants to become advocates against substance abuse and educate peers and family members about its dangers, triggers, and effects.

Speaking on the partnership, Dr Ngozi Maduibuike, the Director of Drug Demand Reduction, NDLEA, noted that the agency’s partnership with the MTN Foundation on the quiz competition on substance abuse aims at reducing the rate of substance abuse among secondary school students in the country.

“The increase in the use of drugs among young people of secondary school age necessitated the NDLEA’s partnership with MTN Foundation to organise a quiz competition among secondary school students.

“The quiz competition is designed to provide young people with learning opportunities to develop skills and attitudes about drugs that enable them to appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle; to build coping skills among students to be able to resist the pressure to use drugs; and to encourage peer education among young people on substance abuse", she said.
