Drug Trafficking: 192 Suspects Nabbed By NDLEA In Ebonyi

Between January and September in Ebonyi, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency detained no less than 192 alleged drug traffickers.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Iyke Uche, stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abakaliki on Tuesday that the agency had confiscated 113.414 kg of Cannabis Sativa.

He added that within the period under examination, 0.0621kgs of methamphetamine, also known locally as Mkpurummiri, was also found.

“The seizures were made by our personnel in different locations across communities in the state,” Uche said.

The commander claimed that despite having many users, Ebonyi has a low level of drug trafficking.

“There is no prevalence drug business here in Ebonyi but there are consumers. We counselled a total of 92 drug users in the state in the period under review.

“Ebonyi is a crime-prone state like the issue of gunmen attacks and other criminalities. Most crimes usually take place with the intake of drugs. Of course, there are drug-enhanced violence crimes.

“So, we will intensify efforts on sensitisations. We are going to strengthen campaigns in schools to nip drug abuses in the bud in the state,” the commander said.

Uche reaffirmed the state agency's dedication to advancing the NDLEA's mission to combat drug misuse and trafficking.

To lessen the threat of illegal drugs in the state, the commander sought media backing for more sensitization programs.
