The Department of State Security (DSS) has arrested three students of the University of Ibadan for allegedly faking the kidnap of one of them in order to swindle his parents.
Information gathered revealed that the supposed kidnap victim was said to have connived with two of his friends to fake his kidnap in order to demand the sum of N3 million ransom from his parents.
On being informed of the kidnap via a phone call, the parents swiftly involved the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who tracked the phone number to the students.
The students were residents of Mellanby Hall of the institution and management of the Hall in reacton had asked student residents to vacate the school premises.
It was gathered that one of them is a recent graduate and a former student leader at the Kenneth Mellanby Hall while the kidnapped student is a resident of Katanga Hall of the university.
