DSS Withdrawal: Matter Between DSS, Police - Adeleke's Spoke

The Osun State Government has reacted to the news of the alleged withdrawal of personnel of the Department of State Security (DSS) from the security detail of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement made available by the Spokesperson to the state governor, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday, the state government clarified that the matter was a minor disagreement between personnel of the DSS and the Nigerian Police.

The government also stated that the matter has been reported to the head of both security agencies for resolution and the issues as at now was being sorted out amicably.

"The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a report on the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke.

"We want to clarify that it is a minor disagreement between officers of the Department of State Service and the Police.

"The matter has been reported to the headquarters of the two security agencies for resolution. The issue is being sorted out."

The state government in the statement while assuring that there was no cause for alarm added that the governor is fully secured and governance is proceeding without hindrance.

Indications had earlier emerged that the DSS had directed the withdrawal of its personnel attached to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

A statement by Chairman and Secretary of an Osun based group; Osun Shall Rise Again, (OSRA), Saheed Bakare and Lanre Akeju, disclosed that the development was as a result of some utterances considered insulting to the Service.

"It was further gathered that when some top officials of the DSS reached out to find out the true situation, the new governor and his elder sister took the DSS top goons to the cleaners, calling them unprintable names.

“The development angered the DSS headquarters and after making contacts, they decided to withdraw their perssonel.

“After the withdrawal, the governor apparently realising his mistakes decided to reach out to plead that he be given another chance.

"He is being expected in Abuja on Monday, where he will be explaining himself and reassure the DSS that he can be trusted,” an unnamed source close to government disclosed.

Reacting to the development, Spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed said the the government is still at its formative stage and is setting up its structure.

Rasheed assure the public that there is no cause for alarm on the incident.

"The Executive Governor is still setting up his team from security to other areas of the new government. Many issues are being addressed.

“So on this particular one, I can assure you there is nothing like crisis or otherwise.

"If there is an inter-agency rivalry, relevant authorities will address it.

“I can assure the public that there is no cause for alarm. This administration is still at a formative stage.”
