D'Tigers Coach Rues Team's Failure To Qualify For 2023 FIBA World Cup

D'Tigers Coach Rues Team's Failure To Qualify For 2023 FIBA

The head coach of D'Tigers, Ogoh Odaudu, has expressed his dissatisfaction over the failure of Nigeria's senior male basketball team to qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Odaudu's men lost the final qualification spot to Cape Verde having fallen to defeat against Angola on Sunday.

The defeat comes as a surprise as the Nigerian team started the final window of the qualifier with back-to-back wins against Ivory Coast and Guinea.

Ivory Coast, Angola and Cape Verde were the top three teams in Group E who finished first, second and third respectively to qualify for the tournament.

"It's too bad that we did not make it to the World Cup," said Odaudu to the media after his side's defeat.

He however noted that he was impressed with his side's resilient attitude towards qualifying for the competition despite their loss.

"But I think we put up a good fight and we can say we are proud of ourselves," he added.

The World Cup is billed to hold in the Philippines between August and September this year.
