Labour Party's presidential flag bearer in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has said that he does not have dual nationality and remains a committed Nigerian.
Obi's words come amid the conversation around Bola Tinubu's Guinea passport after journalist David Hundeyin shared a copy of the bio-page on his Twitter account.
Speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Labour Party in Asaba, Delta State on Tuesday, Obi stated that he remains a committed Nigerian who does not have dual nationality.
“I’m a Nigerian. Committed Nigerian. I don’t have any dual nationality. So, this (Nigeria) is my own country.
“And I have said it that even if there is war outside this country and I’m outside, I will come back because this is my country,” he said.
While sharing Tinubu's Guinea passport, Hundeyin said that the President-elect is guilty of perjury as he lied under oath in his INEC declaration form.
However, former Lagos governor Babatunde Fashola while broaching the subject on Sunday explained why the passport issue may not affect Tinubu's presidency.
According to him, Nigeria's constitution allows for dual citizenship.
