On April 27, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the gradual easing of lockdown in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun states effective from May 4, 2020. The FCT, Lagos and Ogun states had been on lockdown as a measure to curb the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

As a guideline for easing the lockdown, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, mandated the use of facemasks amongst other measures to curtail the spread of the virus in the state. Additionally, commercial motorists are limited to a certain number of passengers, while motor parks are to provide handwashing equipment.
