Easter: 625 Inmates Receive Relief Materials From CAN In Ada

The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa chapter, Rev. Damin Mamza, has distributed relief materials to 625 inmates to celebrate Easter.

Mamza made the donation when he visited the Yolde-Pate Correctional facility in Yola South Local Government Area on Friday.

He noted that the gesture was part of the Easter celebration by the Catholic Diocese of Yola. urging the inmates to be good citizens.

“In the spirit of the season, today is Good Friday, the day we commemorate the death of our lord Jesus Christ.

“In order to follow his exemplary self-sacrifice, we decided to visit this correctional centre and present some basic items to inmates for them to feel the spirit of the season.

Mamza noted that "It is the duty of government to provide both Church and Mosque at  every correctional centre since it a correctional centre.“

The CAN Chairman further stated that religious leaders, individuals, and organisations would make efforts to provide other necessary items that the inmates may need.

He encouraged the inmates to utilise their time in the facility to study religious books and acquire skills.

He also urged them to continue to cooperate with the staff and leaders at the centre.

The leader of the inmates, whose name was not disclosed, expressed gratitude for the donation made by the CAN chairman, which came as a surprise.

However, he also requested instruments for worship and chairs, among other things.

The Assistant Controller Correctional, Musa Gambaki, who is in charge of the centre, appreciated CAN for their visit and assured them that the donated materials would be used for the purpose it was intended.

He added that the facility has a capacity of 1,000 inmates, but currently has 625 inmates.

During the visit, CAN presented 100 plastic buckets, 100 mats, 12 cartons of soap, and assorted first aid items.

The inmates also entertained the visitors, and the CAN chairman was presented with a cap as a gesture of appreciation, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
