The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has warned motorists against drinking while driving, especially during the Easter period.
The warning was given by Ahmed Umar, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC while speaking with the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota.
Umar said that the warning became necessary to motorists as the corps would be deploying personnel at strategic locations to guard against avoidable road crashes.
“We would collaborate with other agencies like National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) to ensure that taking the intoxicating substance and drunk driving is not tolerated.
The commander cautioned all road users against overspeeding, especially articulated vehicle drivers, trailers and tankers.
Umar noted that recently, there had been an upsurge of crashes involving tankers, thus leading to fire explosions and unnecessary loss of lives.
“We are turning our attention to checkmate that accordingly, therefore, all vehicles, trucks, trailers, who do not install speed limit devices must ensure that their vehicles are properly installed with the facility,” he said.
He also added that its personnel would be vigilant on the highways to ensure that whoever violates the rules are sanctioned accordingly.
Umar wished everybody happy motoring through the Easter period and beyond.
Easter will be observed after forty days of fastings by Christians Faithful, on April 7 to April 9.
