Ebonyi Assembly Elects New Deputy Speaker

Ebonyi Assembly Elects New Deputy Speaker

Ebonyi State House of Assembly has elected Kingsley Ogbonnaya Okoro as its new Deputy Speaker.

Okoro is the member representing Afikpo North West Constituency in the Assembly and formerly the Deputy leader of the House.

The election of a new Deputy Speaker was sequel to the alleged resignation of the Deputy Speaker, Obasi Odefa.

The speaker, Francis Nwifuru had read a letter purportedly written by the Deputy Speaker where he was claimed to have resigned as a member of the Assembly.

There were similar letters of other members purported to have also decamped to the APC.

Reacting to his alleged removal, the Deputy Speaker, Obasi Odefa said the letter was forged as he never wrote any letter.

He described the exercise as a sham which he said cannot stand.

“They could not form a quorum and can never get the quorum that’s why they resorted to illegality.

“I am still the Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. How could I have resigned from my elected position as a member representing my people.”
